We will look to nature for designs, and learn to simplify these designs and transfer them to a 4"x 6" woodblock. Learn the rhythm and art of carving a block. Ink your block and take test prints to see your progress and complete one finished block print. With a sketch pad and black marker, learn to sketch images and stylize them to fit block carving and printing.
Everett Ruess was a young man during the great Depression in the 1930's and he wandered throughout the American Southwest. He loaded his mule with all his belongings including woodblocks, tools and inks. In the dust of the outdoors, he produced a series of stunning woodblocks and prints. he mysteriously died before he was twenty five years old. Don't let your creativity be confined to the indoors! Let nature inspire you.
