Danny Dawson started hiking Point Reyes’ trails while in college at UC Berkeley and learning to forage for porcini and chanterelles a few years later truly anchored the park deep in his heart. Since then he has hiked most of the park’s trails, even once in 2018 spending a day hiking the full 40+ miles North->South from Tomales Point to Palomarin. In 2019 he hiked over 2650 miles from the US southern border with Mexico straight through to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail. Point Reyes continues to be his favorite training ground and is the place he envisions when he closes his eyes to find a moment of peace. Danny has spent most of his post-college career in the software industry, including ten years at Google leading teams as a software engineer in the Cloud and Corporate Engineering divisions. His interest in natural science and volunteering extends to his childhood in Florida, where he first gained experience as a docent in the Museum of Discovery and Science and later led guided tours of the local mangrove habitats. When he isn’t backpacking, he can usually be found cooking with his wife Claudine, walking their dog Harlow in Golden Gate Park, or pretending to be a woodworker in his home workshop.
