From the Bay Area, California, Johanna grew up hiking and backpacking throughout California, always in awe of its natural beauty. In 2018, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in environmental management and protection with an emphasis in ecology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. While at university, she was hired as an ornithology intern by the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center, where she discovered her passion for working in conservation. Post-graduation Johanna was hired as a natural resource management intern by the County of San Mateo where she gained tangible experience in restoration and plant ecology, natural resource conservation, and land management.

Johanna is very excited to start her coastal dune and rare plant internship with PRNSA, she will be spending the majority of her time monitoring rare and endangered plant species and working on dune restoration projects. She hopes to gain insight on the coastal and dune plant communities and monitoring techniques, and to explore this incredible area!
