Resilience in Community by Lela Shields

Resilience in Community is an original painting by local artist Lela Shields, created specially for Party on the Pacific Plate 2025. The piece vibrantly depicts the natural wonders of Point Reyes National Seashore, featuring diverse flora and fauna alongside the park’s iconic landscapes. We invited community members to share their favorite “gifts” the Seashore has offered—the moments and memories that tie them to this place—and Lela skillfully wove them into an intricate composition, textured with minerals and gold leaf that illuminate the thriving biodiversity and spirit of community at the heart of Point Reyes. Resilience in Community is a luminous reminder of the connection and belonging that we find when we come together to protect and celebrate the Seashore.
