2025 Government Shutdown Updates: Point Reyes National Seashore
2025 Government Shutdown Updates: Point Reyes National Seashore
Openings, closures, park information, and how you can support.
October 1st, 2025:
PRNSA is working with our National Park Service colleagues to support this cherished place through the government shutdown that began today. While we do not know the duration, the current guidance based on information from the Department of the Interior includes the following:
• Trail & Road Accessibility: Trails, roads, and overlooks in the park are open, but staffing is very limited, so visitors are asked to use caution when spending time in the park. Areas of the park may be closed if they become unsafe.
• Limited Staffing & Park Information: Most NPS staff are furloughed, with remaining staff focused on emergency services and health and safety. Visitor centers (including the Lighthouse Visitor Center) are closed and National Park Service websites and social media will not be maintained, except for emergency communications. Please call 911 for all emergencies.
• Custodial Services: Custodial services will continue in the park for sites that are open. Please do your part to keep the park clean by packing in and packing out.
• PRNSA Operations: PRNSA educational programs—including field classes and school programs—will continue, as will our conservation work.
• Park Stores: While PRNSA stores in the Bear Valley Visitor Center and at the Lighthouse Visitor Center are closed, our Drakes Beach Store will continue to be open on weekends from 11 am – 4 pm. All purchases support the park and are appreciated, especially during this uncertain time.
Guidance may change; this page will be updated as we receive new information.
PRNSA has re-doubled its commitment to our shared conservation, education, and community-building work, and we invite you to join us in supporting the park at this critical time.
