Botany for the Artist

Botany for the Artist

March 27, 2021
Dissect and study the first flowers of Spring then use colored pencil techniques to create a botanical study of your own garden flower.

Spend a fun day dissecting and studying the flowers of Spring.

Learn the basic botany of the flower and create a beautiful study sheet or botanical plate documenting your explorations. Study sheets allow us to really understand our flowers and inform our paintings.

We will work in graphite to create drawings of our dissections and learn various techniques in colored pencil for portraying these small but important parts in our flower paintings. Students may continue on to create a portrait of their flower or study more flowers. Enjoy a few peaceful, meditative hours doing pencil work, drawing spring.

This is an online zoom class. All drawing levels are welcome. A supply list will be provided.

Nina Antze has a Fine Arts degree and a Certificate in Botanical Illustration from the New York Botanical Gardens and studied at the Ruskin School of Art in Oxford. She teaches throughout California and beyond. Her Chinese Maple was recently selected for the deYoung Open.
