Avani is inspired by stories of interconnection in the natural world—the magic which happens when dust from the Sahara flutters across oceans to nourish far-away trees, when a hummingbird’s beak evolves just-right to sip nectar from a flower, and when when spiral-shaped shark eggs tangle with seaweed, safe and at home among the green beds. Her love for these narratives of ecological connection led her to pursue a B.A. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology with a minor in Media Production from University of Colorado Boulder, where she was involved with several art-science projects, including Side by Side and Rituals of This Good Earth. She is interested in exploring the intersection of ecological research, storytelling, and media-making to inspire problem-solving and collective action towards a more inclusive and sustainable future. Through her work with PRNSA, Avani develops multimedia outreach materials which share the stories of Point Reyes’ deeply interwoven communities and ecosystems.
